Crocodile Class (Y1)
Crocodile News - Autumn Term 2024
Welcome to Crocodile class!
We are taught by Mrs Wright on Monday-Thursday mornings, and Miss Higgins every afternoon and all day Friday. We also have Mrs Brittain and Mrs Baldwin who help and support us too. Our bright and friendly classroom changes throughout the year depending on what we’re learning about but we get to share and ‘show off’ our topic learning to our families at open afternoons, so look out for when our next open afternoon is!
In the first half term our topic is ‘Flight’. We’re looking forward to learning all about different flying machines and we will even design and create our own rocket! To support our Topic learning, children also choose POWer projects to complete at home during the half term. The aim is to collect 5 points! There’s lots of tasks and activities that we can choose from, and we love sharing this work with the rest of the class. 😊
Homework
Each week, Crocodiles should be practising their spellings, reading at least three times a week, and accessing Numbots (5-10 mins weekly). A little bit each day makes a huge difference to the children’s learning and confidence, and we love to give rewards for their efforts, such as Pupil of the Week, Super Reader award, Numbots certificate, Team Points and lots more!
Forest School
On Mondays, half our class have a Forest School session with Mr Bell and Mrs Baldwin. This is a valuable tool for developing children’s creativity, communication, confidence, as well as inspiring awe and wonder of our natural environment. We love to hear all about the treasures they’ve discovered, items they’ve made or skills they’ve learnt. We go out in all weathers so be prepared!
Every week, we will update you on all the learning that the Crocodiles have been doing so please check our weekly newsletter shared on the website (Class Page) and Google Classroom.
We have such an exciting year ahead of us with some fabulous topics to learn about so the Clever Crocodiles will be very busy indeed!
